Sulla terminologia Microsoft

Come molti sanno, non amo particolarmente il mondo Microsoft.

Ciò non significa che io sia uno dei "talebani" che dicono "Microsoft fa schifo". Uso solo sistemi Windows da più di 15 anni ed ho maledetto più e più volte, in privato e un pubblico, nostromo e vicenostromo per avermi convinto ad acquistare un netbook assolutamente inutilizzabile a causa del suo Ubuntu. Ho provato varie volte a migrare verso OpenOffice, ma Powerpoint è di gran lunga superiore. Ammiro molto la tecnologia Microsoft e leggo spesso paper prodotti dai fior di cervelli che lavorano in Microsoft Research.

Ciò premesso, ripeto, non amo il mondo Microsoft. Uno dei motivi fondamentali è il completo caos terminologico che usano molto spesso. Sembra fatto apposta per incasinare chi non è uno di loro. Un pò come fanno nella zona a noi confinante.

Un mail che ho ricevuto stamani, relativo alla cessazione di un servizio Microsoft di cloud storage, è un esempio chiarissimo della faccenda. Il mail informa che il servizio A è in fase di spegnimento e sarà sostituito dal servizio B. Un avviso banalissimo. Nel testo che segue ho evidenziato con colori diversi i concetti chiave.

Q: Why is this happening?
A: For the last couple of years, Microsoft has offered two similar services for syncing your files: Live Mesh beta and another service, called Windows Live Sync, which let people sync large folders of files between PCs. To deliver a better product for all our customers, we decided to combine these sets of features into a new product called Windows Live Mesh.

Ho dovuto usare 7 (sette) colori diversi. Il motivo per il quale sia stato necessario utilizzare così tanti termini sfugge alla mia capacità di comprensione.

La cosa ancora peggiore è che tutti questi termini sono estremamente simili tra loro. Per quale cacchio di motivo ?

Se qualcuno adesso mi chiede qual'è A e qual'è B io non sono in grado di dirlo. Devo rileggerlo. E' certamente colpa anche dell'età, ma il caos terminologico mi sembra davvero innegabile.
